'Flex Alert' called off for weekend despite triple-digit heat

LOS ANGELES (AP) California's power grid operator has lifted its call for statewide energy conservation this weekend despite the continuing heat wave.

The California Independent System Operator says the so-called Flex Alert remains in effect Friday but conservation will not be critical on Saturday and Sunday based on forecast electricity demand.

Cal-ISO notes that it is keeping watch on the outlook for Monday.

The heat wave has brought triple-digit highs to the interior regions of California all week. Forecasters see a slight cooling trend early next week.
