GET bus union workers set to strike

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) - Union workers for the Golden Empire Transit District have announced they will go on strike July 15 if a new contract is not agreed upon.

In a press release, GET said negotiations are ongoing with Teamsters Local Union No. 517, but the current deal expires next week.

In the release, GET said, "In the event of a strike, GET will endeavor to provide curb-to-curb service to those customers who are dependent on transportation for serious medical needs. Fixed route services will be suspended."

A GET official said Thursday that they'll meet with the union Friday in hopes of striking a deal.
