Gospel Fest on Friday as part of Black History Month lineup
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) —
Black History Month events are in full swing, with Gospel Fest on Friday night at California State University, Bakersfield.
The event is free, open to the public and features church performers from around Kern County starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Icardo Center.
Other upcoming Black History Month events, according to the NAACP Bakersfield Branch:
- A "Family Feud" game will be hosted by Grandma Whoople Enterprises and Upside Academy Inc. 3:30-5 p.m. Friday at the Holloway-Gonzales Library on East Brundage Lane.
- The ninth annual African American Read In is 2:30-5 p.m. Feb. 18 at Bakersfield Senior Center, 530 4th St.
- A private screening of the Marvel movie "Black Panther" is set for 7 p.m. Feb. 20 at Reading Cinemas Valley Plaza on Wible Road. Tickets need to be purchased for $10 in advance through Eventbrite or at Jusntyme Barbershop.
- The Black American History Parade is 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, beginning at 21st and V streets in Bakersfield. Parade applications are now available, and Heritage Awards Festival Vendor booth spaces are being reserved. The deadline for submissions is this Saturday, Feb. 10.
