Group home resident dies following interaction with staff

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) A resident at a group home died Tuesday following an interaction with staff members.

The group home resident, 24-year-old Joseph Adam Lynch, was believed to be committing vandalism at the home in the 3000 block of Hinsley Road, the Kern County Sheriff's Office said.

Sheriff's office deputies were called on the vandalism complaint. Before the deputies arrived, the sheriff's office said Lynch assaulted one of the staff members. Other staff members attempted to control Lynch until deputies arrived.

Lynch was not responsive when deputies arrived, and deputies began CPR. Lynch was taken to Kern Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead about an hour after the initial sheriff's office dispatch.

The sheriff's office hasn't described how the interaction unfolded between Lynch and the group home staffers. Deputies are conducting an investigation.
