Interim director named for Kern County Department of Human Services

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) Dena Murphy has been appointed interim director of the Kern County Department of Human Services.

She will replace Pat Cheadle, who is retiring, effective April 1.

Murphy has 20 years of administrative experience with the county department, where she currently serves as chief deputy director and oversees a $388 million budget and more than 1,500 employees, according to a news release from the Kern County Administrative Office.

"Dena Murphy has the leadership and experience that are vital for the Department of Human Services to continue its mission of helping families in need and protecting children," Kern County Board of Supervisors Chairwoman Leticia Perez said in the news release. "Our Board has the utmost confidence in her ability to guide the important work of the Department as we recruit candidates for the Director position."
