Margaret James said it was like losing her son all over again. She said her home on Verdugo Lane was burglarized Friday night, and they took the ashes of her son and dog.

James said the thieves also took material items, like jewelry and watches.

“I felt violated,” James told Eyewitness News.

She filed a report with the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, but she said the deputies told her to call the Eyewitness News tip line.

James said she doesn’t care about the valuables, she just wants the ashes back.

“I don’t care who did it,” she said. “Just please, return my son and my dog. I don’t care. Get them back to me, no questions asked.”

James said her plan was to have her son’s ashes buried with her when she passes away. She said her son’s ashes were in a blue backpack knitted with black strings. She said the dog’s ashes were in a blue velvet case with a silver box.
