A SWAT standoff drew to a conclusion Wednesday morning when Kern County deputies breached an RV and arrested a suspect without further incident.

The Sheriff's Office responded to a report earlier in the morning of a man armed with a knife. Colton Street, just south of Highway 58 and just east of Highway 99, was blocked off during the nearly five-hour operation.

The man made threats against his own life, as well as the lives of law enforcement, the Sheriff’s Office said.

James Stephens, 50, was arrested on suspicion of stalking, resisting arrest, burglary and violating a domestic violence restraining order.
