Kern County Fire Department gives disaster kits to employees
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) —
Eyewitness News recently presented the "Get Ready Kern County" special on disaster preparedness.
Thanks to a little inspiration from that campaign, the Kern County Fire Department is making sure its emergency teams are prepared, as well.
"We preach you have to be ready at home, but there is another component of it," Fire Chief Brian Marshall said. "We spend a third of our lives at work, or at school, and you need to be prepared there."
The department held a safety meeting for its employees, and for the first time it's making sure everyone in attendance received a disaster-preparedness kit.
Marshall said they purchased and packed more than 100 backpacks with essentials.
