Kern County jury finds man guilty of second-degree murder
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) —
A man was found guilty Wednesday of second-degree murder by a Kern County jury.
Guadalupe Ruiz was found guilty of murdering Abel Prendiz at his apartment in November 2015.
Ruiz, along with his accomplice, Quinton James, went up to Prendiz and began to attack him. Prendiz was a stranger to both men.
Ruiz ultimately kicked Prendiz in the head with a steel-toe boot, causing Prendiz to a die a few weeks later, according to the Kern County District Attorney's Office.
James has already pleaded guilty to one count of voluntary manslaughter for 14 years in prison. He is scheduled to be sentenced later this month.
Ruiz faces 19 years to life in prison. He scheduled to be sentenced in October.
