Kern supervisors drop 'interim' tag from animal services director

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) Shyanne Schull has been appointed as director of Kern County Animal Services.

Schull has been serving as interim director since Jen Woodard was fired as director Sept. 10.

The Kern County Board of Supervisors dropped the "interim" tag during session Tuesday and congratulated Schull on a job well-done during a period of drastic change for the agency.

Bakersfield and Kern County split animal control operations, and Schull was responsible for overseeing the move to a new shelter at 3951 Fruitvale Ave.

Schull had supervised daily operations of the Kern County shelter since her appointment as assistant director in January 2013.

Before that, she was animal control director in Shafter and compiled 15 years of field experience. She also has an animal science degree from California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo.
