Main Bakersfield freeways reopen after fiery big rig crash
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) A big rig crash shut down parts of Highways 99 and 58 for much of the morning Friday. The last lanes of Hwy. 99 reopened just after noon. The crash happened around 8:20 a.m. on the elevated portion of eastbound Hwy. 58. California Highway Patrol Officer Robert Rodriguez said the driver was transitioning from southbound Hwy. 99 to eastbound Hwy. 58 and was "driving way too fast for wet roadway conditions."Rodriguez said the tractor-trailer "ping-ponged along the wall, both sides" before jackknifing and bursting into flames. The truck was dangling off the overpass, above Hwy. 99, and Hwy. 99 was closed because of falling debris. Two other cars were involved in the crash, but everyone escaped without injury, Rodriguez said.
