Man arraigned at hospital for girlfriend killing

SAN DIEGO (AP) A man has pleaded not guilty from a hospital bed to charges that he stabbed his girlfriend and left her body in a car in San Diego County.

Twenty-eight-year-old John Monta entered his plea during his murder arraignment Thursday at a La Jolla medical center.

City News Service says Monta is battling lymphoma and recently underwent a bone marrow transfusion.

He faces 26 years to life in prison if convicted.

The body of 24-year-old Joanne Javier of San Diego was discovered last week in an SUV at a Carlsbad parking lot.
