Prosecutors say a jury on Monday convicted 37-year-old John Agosta of one felony count of murder with a sentencing enhancement for using a firearm causing death.
Prosecutors say Agosta followed his estranged wife Alejandra Hernandez after she left her job in Irvine for lunch in on June 16, 2011. After she got out of her car about a half mile away, prosecutors say Agosta shot her nine times in the chest.
Agosta faces at least 50 years to life in prison. He is set to be sentenced Aug. 30.
Defense attorney Frederick Fascenelli says the shooting was a crime of passion and his client will appeal.
