A man was sentenced Thursday in Kern County court to 26 years in prison for the murder of a man aboard a bus.

Richard Gomez stabbed 24-year-old Lorenzo Hernandez in August 2011.

Prosecutor Arthur Norris previously said the men got into an argument while sitting at the Golden Empire Transit District bus stop on Pioneer Drive. It's not clear what they fought about.

The two men boarded the bus, and Gomez later got up and stabbed Hernandez twice in the chest. Hernandez was rushed to Kern Medical Center, but he died shortly thereafter.

Gomez, who ran from the scene, was identified in surveillance video aboard the bus.

He pleaded not guilty to the murder by reason of insanity, but a judge ruled last month that Gomez was indeed not crazy.
