Spokeswoman Farrah Emami says 37-year-old Jeremy Dwayne Martin was sentenced Friday. A jury found him guilty of murder in March.
Martin and his 62-year-old father, Frederick Martin, got into a verbal and physical argument last May because the father was unhappy with his son keeping a gun in their home.
Frederick Martin called 911, but his son didn't answer the door when police responded. Once officers left, Jeremy Martin shot and killed his father before calling 911 to report the shooting.
During his trial, the defense argued Martin was in a methamphetamine-induced psychosis and didn't intend to kill.
