Motorcyclist injured in crash after losing pursuing deputy

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- A Bakersfield man crashed his motorcycle on Eucalyptus Drive Saturday morning after losing deputies in a high speed chase, the Kern County Sheriff's Office said.

The incident started at around 10:20 a.m. Saturday when a KCSO deputy was trying to pull over a silver motorcycle driving east on Eucalyptus Drive. The motorcyclist, later identified as 37-year-old Marcus Salazar, ran a red light at Eucalyptus Dr. and Fairfax Rd., sped off and lost the deputy.

About a minute later, the deputy caught up to the motorcycle, which had crashed on the sidewalk of Park Drive at Foothill High School. The motorcycle was overturned next to an electrical pole, with Salazar laying on the concrete next to it.

Salazar was taken to the Kern Medical Center with major injuries.
