National signing day: Garces student to play water polo at Air Force Academy
Wednesday, Garces Memorial High School celebrated a student as part of national signing day.
Lee Begin signed a letter of intent to play men's water polo for the U.S. Air Force Academy.
Begin will be majoring in Mechanical Engineering. He maintained at 4.2 GPA at Garces.
He said the Air Force was his top choice because he loves planes and serving our country runs in his family.
"It's more than a job, it's a legacy that I'm carrying on," Begin said.
Begin has been playing competitive club water polo for about ten years. With his club team, he has competed in the Junior Olympics nine times.
He was the utility and attacker for the Ram's 2017 Valley Championship Water Polo Team. While playing for the Rams, he has helped lead the team to two CIF Central Section Championships and two EYL League Championships.
Begin has been honored as the Outstanding Student Athlete in Water Polo by the Bakersfield Jockey Club and was named an Academic All-American by USA Water Polo.
