Nonprofit for children is victimized by burglary

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) Thousands of dollars' worth of clothing was stolen from a Bakersfield storage unit Tuesday.

But, this robbery doesn't affect just one person. It could affect countless needy children across the world.

Brandon Smith owns the unit that was broken into. He also runs the nonprofit company B.Love Clothing Co. For every item sold, another item is donated to a child in need.

Smith estimates $30,000 worth of shoes, shirts and more were taken from the storage unit.

"The people that stole this probably had no idea," Smith says.

He filed a report with Bakersfield police but says he doesn't want to press charges.

"They did it for whatever reason they had," Smith says, "I just want them to know I'm not angry."

For now, he's thinking towards the future.

"How do we rebuild?" Smith asks. "How do we continue to try to help these kids in need?"
