One dead, seven rescued from Kern River

UPDATE: The Kern County coroner's office on Monday, July 3, identified this 22-year-old man who died after being found unresponsive in the Kern River as Edwin Carcamo Morales, of Los Angeles.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) -- Kern County search-and-rescue crews pulled a 22-year-old man out of the Kern River on Saturday morning.

Officials say the man was swimming with friends near Keyesville when he was swept away by the current.

He was taken to a hospital, but he did not survive.

Crews were also sent out to retrieve seven people whose raft had flipped over. All seven were brought safely to shore.

The Sheriff's Office advises everyone to avoid the river.
