Driver arrested after hitting pedestrian

UPDATE: The Kern County coroner's office on July 17 identified the pedestrian killed in this collision as 56-year-old Candido Michael Flores Jr.


BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) -- A man is dead after being hit by a car in central Bakersfield on Thursday night.

Officers received a call after a vehicle hit a pedestrian at 11:30 p.m. at the intersection of Eureka Street and Union Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found a man in the roadway with major injuries. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

Further investigation revealed the man was struck by a northbound vehicle while walking across Eureka Street.

It was determined the driver of the vehicle was under the influence at the time of the collision.

That person was taken into custody and booked into the Kern County jail.
