Police: 1 injured in shooting
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) Police are searching for a suspect who opened fire in broad daylight and shot a man on the corner of V and 8th streets.
Witnesses tell Eyewitness News that a white Mustang pulled up, someone from the car fired a gun into a yard of a house, and at least one person was hit.
Police have only confirmed that a man was shot and suffered minor or moderate injuries. The man's name was withheld. He suffered moderate to major injuries.
Several shell casings were found just inside the gate of a home said Bakersfield police spokesperson Michaela Beard. The man shot was an adult and he was taken by private vehicle to a local hospital.
Members of one community group working to stem the violence in the neighborhood decried another round of violence.
"(Violence) hurts the community," said David Williams with Violence Interrupters. "Violence breaks the fabric of the community," said Williams.
Police were canvassing the area looking for evidence and trying to find witnesses who were willing to talk. Beard said witnesses were not cooperating.
Williams said he understands witnesses may be afraid to come forward out of fear of retaliation, but people can come forward and remain anonymous.
