Police: Frazier Park woman hits 3, kills girl in Santa Ana

SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) A 5-year-old girl was killed and her mother and sister were critically injured Saturday after they were struck by a driver who attempted to flee before being stopped by a driver who witnessed the crash, police said.

The driver, 33-year-old Jessicah Louise Cowan, of Frazier Park, was arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run, driving under the influence and manslaughter, police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said.

The girl, Osmara Mesa, died at the scene. Her 6-year-old sister and mother were taken to the hospital with head trauma.

A preliminary investigation indicated that Cowan was driving 60 mph on a neighborhood street and ran over the victims who were on their way to a store, Bertagna said.
