James Springstead, 28, also has two prior drunk-driving convictions and was arrested last month by the California Highway Patrol on suspicion of drunk driving, according to Bakersfield police and Kern County court records.

Monday's crash occurred around 4 a.m. on Tilden Way, a residential street near Ming Avenue and Ashe Road. Police said Springstead hit at least one other car before plowing into the garage.

It's unknown if Springstead was injured.
