Boat lovers found their happy place at Lake Ming on Sunday afternoon, during the season opener for the National Jet Boat Association.

Around 60 boaters participated in drag races that brought out hundreds of onlookers.

Jets, flat bottoms and hydro boats raced across the water.

Racers from all across the United States met on the water to find out who was the fastest in hopes of advancing on to the final rounds.

This is the first of six water races that will take place until the season close in November.

There are several different classes that racers compete in during the West Coast regional races.

Tony Scarlata has been racing for more than 25 years, and he said the races are fun but can get competitive.

“Everybody is a big family, but when it comes right down to it once you get on the water, you don’t have any friends," he said.
