For a veteran in Kern County, the right medical attention is often hundreds of miles away. Today a new program was announced that will bring medical care closer to home.

Congressman Kevin McCarthy hosted a press conference on Thursday, May 31 to highlight the launch of the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Convenient Care Initiative.

The Convenient Care Initiative was created as a part of the Veterans Choice Program, and permits veterans receiving their health care from the VA to access local walk-in urgent care clinics for minor medical issues if they cannot be seen by a local VA clinic in a timely manner.

For more information contact Rep. McCarthy’s Bakersfield office at (661) 327-3611.
