Serial scam artist heading to jail
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A scam artist has been sentenced to more than three years in jail following his conviction last month on charges of obtaining money by false pretenses and contracting without a license.
Prosecutors say Barry Wayne Hanner defrauded a Bakersfield couple in October 2014, unlawfully taking money or personal property while doing business as an unlicensed contractor.
Hanner had signed a contract and received $7,000 cash from the couple to do a job. He abandoned the project a short time after taking the money.
Eyewitness News has fielded complaints about Hanner in the past, shining a light on his previous criminal activity.
