Sheriff's office: No gunman found at Lamont elementary school

LAMONT, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) Lamont Elementary School was placed on lockdown Wednesday afternoon after second-graders reported seeing a man with a gun on campus.

Kern County Sheriff's Office spokesman Ray Pruitt said three students said they saw a man attempting to jump a fence. They thought he had a gun, and one girl thought she heard a gunshot.

Pruitt said officers found nothing to substantiate the children's report.

Also Wednesday, Fairview Elementary School in southeast Bakersfield was placed on lockdown after shots were fired in the area. No victims nor suspects were located in that situation, which Pruitt said was close to the school but not connected to the school.
