      Stabbing victim in stable condition, police arrest assailant

      BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- A man stabbed multiple times at a downtown Bakersfield residence Sunday morning is expected to live, police said.


      Officers responded to a disturbance and possible stabbing at around 12:15 A.M. Sunday at a residence in the 2500 block of K St. in downtown Bakersfield.


      Police arrived to find a 39-year-old man bleeding from multiple stab wounds. He was taken to a local hospital where he was listed as in stable condition.


      The suspect, Barney Daniel Simons, 41, was still at the scene when police arrived. Simons was arrested and booked at Kern County Jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and willful infliction of injury.
