The National Park Service has reported two deaths, one on Mount Whitney and one on the Watchtower section of the Lakes Trail in Lodgepole.

The first happened on Saturday, May 5th when two people located ice axes and a blood trail during their descent of Mount Whitney.

The body of a man was found 1500 to 2000 feet below the axes.

Rangers recovered the body and turned it over to the Tulare County Coroner's Office.

The body was identified as 29-year-old Eric Juliani of New Jersey.

The second falling death happened on Sunday, May 13th, when a hiker fell from the Watchtower section of the Lakes Trail.
