Irma downgraded to a tropical storm
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — The National Hurricane Center (NHC) downgraded Irma to a tropical storm, according to the 8 a.m. advisory.
Irma's maximum sustained winds have decreased to 70 miles per hour. Irma is still moving north at a steady pace of 18 mph.
The eye of the storm is approximately 105 miles northwest of Tampa and 30 miles northeast of Cedar Key. The storm is expected to leave the state of Florida later this afternoon.
