Jail locked down following inmate disturbance

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) -- A portion of Lerdo jail was put on lock-down Friday night following a disturbance with male inmates in an exercise yard.

The disturbance was reported around 6:44 p.m. according to Kern County Sheriff's Lt. Lance Grimes. He said additional manpower was requested from nearby law enforcement, including the California Highway Patrol. But deputies were able to quickly separate the inmates and no deputies were injured.

Inmate visitation was canceled for the Male Minimum Facility for the weekend so the incident could be investigated.

Several inmates involved reportedly sustained injuries, but none required hospitalization.
