A Department of Natural Resources employee reported a bear cub crying as he drove down a forest road in the Smith Creek area of Grays Harbor County near Brooklyn.
Two state wildlife agents responded and found the bear with a back paw wedged in the fork of a tree.
Agents also spotted the cubs mother nearby, pacing back and forth.
The agents cut the sapling tree below the cub to set it free. It was not seriously injured, and immediately climbed another tree.
No further action was taken as the bears were causing no trouble in such a remote location.
