Eye jewelry: controversial cosmetic surgery
You won't believe the latest trend in cosmetic surgery: jewelry implants for your eyes.
New York eye doctor Emil Chynn performs the surgery for those who say the typical mascara and eyeliner just aren't enough. He says it's a very thin piece of platinum that's designed for the insertion on the top of your eye.
Though the procedure is not approved by the FDA, Chynn says it's not dangerous. According to Chynn, there's little risk of infection, and no risk of blindness.
The American Academy of Opthalmology warns that the dangers of such an eye-dazzling procedure aren't known yet.
The eye-piercing procedure costs around $3,000, and so far, only a few hundred surgeries have been performed in Europe, Los Angeles and New York.
