Drillers end Kern County drought, Ridgeview advances in Division II
Not since the CIF Central Section moved its Valley basketball finals to Fresno's Selland Arena has a Kern County team played for the Division I boys basketball title.
But that drought will end Saturday.
After withstanding an 18-0 run from 10th-seeded Bullard in the first half of their semifinal match-up, third-seeded BHS pulled away in the second half to advance to the sectional title game. The Drillers will face top-seeded Central of Fresno, after the Grizzlies beat fourth-seeded Liberty, Saturday at 8 p.m.
In Division II, Ridgeview blew out fourth-seeded Redwood to advance to the title game. The top-seeded Wolf Pack will play second-seeded San Joaquin Memorial, which beat Independence in the semifinals.
Both Chavez and West fell in the Division III semifinals, while top-seeded California City advanced to the Division V final with a win over Dos Palos.
