The Alameda County coroner's office has released the cause of death for a Cal football player from Bakersfield.

Ted Agu, 21, a junior defensive lineman, died in February after collapsing during a training run with teammates.

The coroner's office said Thursday that Agu died of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a heart condition.

Agu earned All-Southwest Yosemite League honors during his final two years at Bakersfield's Frontier High School, leading the conference with 12 sacks as a senior, according to his Cal bio. He also participated in basketball and track-and-field during his time at Frontier.

Agu made the honor roll all four years of high school, 2006-10.

He recorded six tackles in seven games of action for Cal last season.
