Former BC football player killed in Arkansas shooting

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) - A former Bakersfield College football player was shot and killed Sunday in Arkansas.

Brandon Hobdy, 23, transferred to Southern Arkansas University and played there last season. He was a wide receiver.

A CBS affiliate in Arkansas, KTHV, reported that Hobdy was at a VFW center when someone opened fire on the crowd. One other person was hit by gunfire.

Hobdy was a native of Garland, Texas.

"Everyone at Southern Arkansas is deeply saddened by this tragic news" SAU Athletic Director Steve Browning said on the school's website. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Hobdy family in particular and to all those that are affected by this tragedy."
