      BHS Drillers are state football champs

      CARSON, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) The Bakersfield High School Drillers won their first modern-era state football championship Friday night at the Stub Hub Center in Carson.

      BHS, which holds five state crowns from the 1920s, beat Del Oro of Loomis 56-26 for the Division I title.

      The Drillers (12-2 entering the game) struck first with a 3-yard rushing touchdown and was up 21-14 after an offense-dominated first quarter. BHS led Del Oro (13-3 entering) 28-17 at halftime.

      Earlier in the night, the Bakersfield Christian High School Eagles lost in their first trip ever to a state football final. Central Catholic of Modesto won the Division IV title over BCHS 36-23.
