Celebrate Read Across America Day at local bookstore, Russo's

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Monday kicks off Read Across America Week, and celebrates Dr. Seuss' birthday. It's an annual awareness day to get kids more involved in reading.

Bakersfield is joining the nation in celebrating books today at Russo's local bookstore, a community staple for more than 30 years.

The owner, Michael Russo, says that when you support Russo's, your supporting hometown literacy.

Eyewitness News Mornings also got the chance to speak with local author Allison Crotzer-Kimmel. Her new non-fiction picture book, Unbeatable Betty tells the story about a resilient young woman who was the first to win gold for track and field. Follow her work here.
