Grab your dogs and lace up your walking shoes for the annual Bark for Life event.

The American Cancer Society's event benefits Relay for Life of Bakersfield.

Event co-chairs Dana Fabbri and Susan Spears joined Eyewitness News on Tuesday morning to discuss the unique event that honors our caring canine companions.

Since dogs are not allowed at Relay for Life, they said this is a chance to celebrate cancer survivors and patients and their four-legged friends.

Registration is open now for Bark for Life being held Saturday, March 24 at Liberty Park.

Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. The kickoff is at 8 a.m. and the walk begins at 9 a.m.

Relay for Life of Bakersfield is being held May 5-6 at the Kern County Fairgrounds.
