6th annual Walk for Valley Fever scheduled for Aug. 19

FILE -- A map from the CDC shows areas where valley fever, also called coccidioidomycosis, is common.

The Kern County community is invited to take part in the sixth annual Walk for Valley Fever on Aug. 19.

All proceeds go to improving treatment options and research toward a cure for valley fever, according to Valley Fever Americas Foundation.

The cost for the event is $20 per person, and it includes coffee, snacks and souvenirs.

Children under 12 walk for free.

The first 450 participants to register will receive a free T-shirt.

The event will feature games, facing painting and prizes.

Registration begins at 7 a.m., and the walk will start at 8 a.m. at Pioneer Village at the Kern County Museum, 3801 Chester Ave.
