BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) – A second flu-related death has been confirmed in Kern county this flu season.

Michelle Corson, a spokeswoman with the Kern County Public Health Services Department, couldn’t provide any additional information Wednesday regarding the death.

“Still get your flu shot!” she urged via an email correspondence with Eyewitness News.

The season’s first confirmed flu-related death came in November.

Anyone can get the flu, though certain people are at greater risk of serious complications. At-risk people include young children, pregnant women, older adults, and people with chronic health conditions.

In addition to getting the flu vaccine, the Public Health department offers these tips:

  • Stay home when sick.
  • Cover a cough or sneeze with a tissue and properly dispose of the used tissue.
  • Wash hands thoroughly with soap and warm water or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
