BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Dignity Health and Anthem Blue Cross have reached a deal that will allow teachers to continue using Memorial Hospital, Mercy Southwest and Mercy Downtown with their insurance plans.

The previous deal expired last month, raising concerns that Dignity services would be dropped from teachers’ plans.

The two sides negotiated a brief extension to continue talks and have now struck an agreement, according to Self Insured Schools of California. SISC was not a party in the negotiations.

Without the deal, teachers and their families would’ve been forced to choose different local options for physicians and hospital care to maintain the insurance coverage to which they’ve grown accustomed.
