Declassified report sheds new light on how Bakersfield man died in WWII

The man in the portrait, Beauran O'Kane, was a graduate of East High School. He died June 1, 1945, when his plane was shot down over the South Pacific.

East High graduate Beauran O'Kane died June 1, 1945.

His family received word from the federal government shortly thereafter, advised only that his plane never returned from a mission that left from the Philippines.

But over time, the family's diligent search for information uncovered more and more clues about his death and a declassified document recovered this month gives them more hope than ever his body may someday be found.
