BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Fourteen people were wounded in a drive-by shooting early Saturday morning while at a house party in south Bakersfield. No one was killed.
The Kern County Sheriff's Office said about 150 people were at the party on Stephens Drive, near Belle Terrace and Wible Road. Many of the partygoers were outside the home when the shooter or shooters drove by.
"How nobody was killed is kind of a miracle," Kern County Sheriff's spokesman Ray Pruitt said. "There were numerous people who were shot, numerous shots fired and we still don't even know at this point how many shots were fired."
Pruitt said the Sheriff's Office's initial investigation indicates that the shooting came after uninvited guests came to the party and were told to leave. He also said he believes the shooting is gang-related.
People were shot in the arms, legs and chest, and the Sheriff's Office described wounds to two people as "critical." Still, all are expected to survive.
"We're getting very little cooperation at this point from people who were attending the party," Pruitt said.
Anyone who can help with the investigation is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at (661) 861-3110 or the Secret Witness hotline at 322-4040.
