ARVIN, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) – Two people were found dead Wednesday morning in a rural area north of Arvin.

The Kern County Sheriff’s Office said the bodies were found in a vineyard off Tejon Highway.

A sheriff’s sergeant on scene said the people had been burned in a fire. Brush was also burned, but the sergeant wouldn't say if the same fire that burned the people was the fire that burned the brush.

It's unclear if the fire started before or after the people died. The sergeant didn't comment on a potential cause of death or provide information on ages or genders.

Anyone with information helpful to the investigation is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at (661) 861-3110 or the Secret Witness hotline at 322-4040.
