2 teens killed in car crash on Fairfax Road

{A href=""}BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) Two teens were killed in a crash Friday night on the 5800 block of Fairfax Road. The accident involved a 1990s Honda Accord and a 2002 Mitsubishi Montero.

Aubrey LaJonte Crofton, 19, and Angelo Reyes, 14, both of Bakersfield, were killed. Both were in the Accord, which police said was being driven by Crofton.

Two others in the Accord survived, including 16-year-old Tyruss Crofton, cousin to Aubrey LaJonte Crofton.

Somehow, Tyruss Crofton walked out of the crumbled Accord with only two broken collarbones.

"I don't know how. They said it was impossible," said Tyruss Crofton.

He said he was very close to his older cousin, who would watch out for him.

"He loved his family more than anything, and he would always tell me how it is," said Crofton. "He meant so much to me."

Eyewitnesses said - and Crofton confirmed - that the Accord was making a U-turn when it was hit by the Mitsubishi SUV. Police say the SUV's driver, 47-year-old Terri Papadakis, of Bakersfield, suffered minor injuries.

The other person killed, Reyes, was a freshman at Highland High School.

"He was loved by many, many people," said aunt Rosalia Alvarez.

The family was at a loss for words. They were also trying to make funeral arrangements. Alvarez said her nephew wanted to be a model, and now those plans are dashed.

"Just seems like a nightmare," said Alvarez.

Police said the investigation continues.
