Bakersfield police target pot shops, make 20 arrests in 2-day operation

Officers served 10 search warrants at marijuana dispensaries Monday and Tuesday that resulted in 20 arrests, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.

While serving the warrants, officers seized a large amount of marijuana, along with 15 grams of rock cocaine, four guns and more than $20,000 in cash.

Police also said some of the dispensaries were stealing electricity from nearby businesses.

Code enforcement officers also deemed several of the pot shops unfit for use after finding code violations.

While officers served one of the search warrants, they believe a man committed suicide.

The search warrants part of an effort to close down dispensaries, which are illegal within the city of Bakersfield. The targeted dispensaries had previously been ordered by the city's attorney to cease and desist their activities.
