The Bakersfield City Council meets Wednesday evening, and the 24th Street widening project and Sports Village upgrades are among the topics on the agenda.

The fight to make the 24th Street widening project pedestrian friendly goes to the council. Residents plan to present a petition asking the council to create crosswalks on the roadway for pedestrians and bicyclists.

Construction is underway to widen 24th from three to four lanes.

The council will also look at making improvements to Sports Village in southwest Bakersfield. The council members will review a plan that would add more lighting to the park and improve the soccer field.

The council meeting is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. at City Hall, 1501 Truxtun Ave.
