BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) – Six local flu-related deaths have now been recorded this season.
Kern County Public Health on Friday also reported there have been a dozen intensive-care unit hospitalizations related to flu this season.
Four flu death were reported during last week’s update from Public Health.
This season’s flu deaths mark a five-year high. There were two local flu deaths each of the previous two years.

Public Health said the best way to avoid the flu is getting the vaccine, frequent handwashing and steering clear of sick people.
