BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Roughly 500 people marched through Bakersfield, from the Liberty Bell to Mill Creek Park, carrying signs. However, no chants were heard and the signs did not bare a catchy nor a political slogan. These people marching were not protesters, but rather crime victims.
The 7th annual march for victims had the trademark signs of the six before it. The faces of those taken from their families, along with their birth and death dates, on full display.
While the event is a somber reminder of what is lost, it is also a hopeful day for those still seeking justice.
The theme of this march was "cold case." Bakersfield Police Chief Lyle Martin said his department may have cold cases, but it has no closed cases and his officers will continue to seek justice for the grieving families in the community.
